Cosmetic Teeth Whitening FAQ

How long with the results last?

With teeth, this depends entirely on each individual and depends on whether you smoke and consume staining agents (coffee, soft drinks). Periodic touch up treatments can be completed to maintain your results.

How many treatments will I need to see results?

All clients will see a whiter smile after just one treatment. However, clients with minor to mid-range tetracycline or antibiotic stains, teeth speckled with fluoride or affected by hereditary discolouration may require further treatments. If this is you a second treatment is recommended to take place two weeks after the first for optimal results.

How long will the appointment take?

Your treatment will take approximately 90 minutes. The total in-chair treatment time takes an hour.

Do treatments hurt?

No. Some clients experience minor sensitivity for a few hours after the treatment. A chance of high sensitivity is very slim and will subside after a few hours.

Are treatments safe?

Yes! Years of teeth whitening treatments all over the world have proven that it is good for the gums as laser light kills the bacteria that causes gum disease. So not only will the treatment whiten your teeth – it’s actually good for overall dental hygiene!

Who shouldn’t have teeth whitening?

Clients who have serious holes or deterioration of the tooth enamel should not have teeth whitening. Similarly, if you have a dead tooth or non vital teeth, these will not respond to the treatment. Crowns and Vaneers will only be polished to their original colour. Whilst there is no evidence of harm, teeth whitening is best to not be performed whilst you are pregnant.

How does it work?

When the blue laser light activates the whitening gel, it releases oxygen and water free radicals which bond the molecules to the tooth which causes discoloration. The procedure then oxidises the pigmentation of the teeth through the dentin tubles restoring them to white. Unlike other whitening systems on the market, our light is filtered to remove ultraviolet light which avoids irritating the nerves of the teeth.
