Cheek enhancement assist in lifting, sculpting and defining the mid-face. This helps create a more youthful and rejuvinated appearance.
As we get older, our face tends to naturally appear more square. This is due to a combination of gravitational descent and volume loss in the upper and mid face. Our cheeks loose volume, the underlying bone and soft tissue gradually dissolves. This means we are left with less structural support to lift the lower face.
Cheek enhancements can assist in creating structural support to return the cheeks to a higher, more prominent position. This in turn lifts the lower face and softens the appearance of deep nasolabial folds and jowl lines. Volume can also be added to the mid-cheek to form a more youthful looking, full cheek.
Similarly, cheek enhancements and contouring can assist in correcting asymmetry or to give a more high-boned defined appearance. We can improve the appearance of asymmetry by creating shape, volume and structural support to the cheek, resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing look.
There are a couple of different techniques that your practitioner can use when performing your cheek enhancement. After assessing your face and discussing your treatment goals, your face will be mapped. This treatment may be performed through the use of a cannula or needle or both. After your cheek enhancement, the area will have a light massage. We also feel for any lumps/bumps and smooth these out. This also allows the clinician to assess your skin perfusion, ensuring no adverse events have occurred.
Aftercare advice for your cheek enhancement will be the same as all dermal enhancing treatments. You will want to avoid any alcoholic beverages (where possible) as this can increase your chances of bruising and prolong swelling. Refrain from any active skin treatments over the following 24 hours and all dermal skin treatments for at least 2 weeks. It is also advisable to not massage your cheeks or lay directly on them for the first day. For more information about this, head across to our FAQ page.
At two weeks post your cheek enhancement, you will have an opportunity for a follow up appointment. It is advisable to attend this, especially if it is your first treatment. This allows your clinician to assess how the treatment went, and address any concerns you may have in relation to the treatment.
You may wish to undertake further cheek enhancements depending on the goal of treatment. Yearly maintenance is recommended to sustain results.
