Tell me all about Anti-Wrinkle Treatments!

We most commonly use Anti-wrinkle treatments to prevent the formation of wrinkle lines developing and to soften the appearance of the ones we already have. Anti-wrinkle injections are neuro-muscular blocking agents made from the bacteria protein abobotulinumtoxin A. They work by temporarily preventing nerve signals to the muscles. In turn, this helps the muscles to relax, smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Over time, repeated muscle movements cause deep facial folds to form. By relaxing these muscles, we can achieve a younger-looking, rejuvenated appearance. It is important to note that your surrounding muscles which have not been treated will still work normally. This will allow you to continue to express naturally. It’s the lines that disappear, not your ability to create expressions.

In recent years, we have seen an increased use of anti-wrinkle injections being utilised in many areas of the body. These are for both cosmetic & medicinal purposes. Treatment of the upper face remains our most popular anti-wrinkle treatment at Aesthetic Allure. However, there are several other procedures that we use anti-wrinkle injections for.

Upper Face Anti-Wrinkle

Our most popular Anti-Wrinkle Treatment. Upper-Face Anti-Wrinkle treatment comprises three groups of muscles – frontalis (forehead), glabella (the smooth part of the forehead above and between the eyebrows) and the orbicularis oculi encircling the eye. We can treat these areas singularly or as a three area package.

Gummy Smile & Bunny Lines

A ‘Gummy Smile’ occurs when an individual shows too much gum above their teeth when smiling. This is the result from the over-elevation of the upper lip muscle. Gummy smiles can be a source of embarrassment for many people.  To treat this, we inject a small amount of anti-wrinkle product into this muscle to relax the upper lip. This allows the lip to drop and disguise the gumminess of the smile.

Bunny Lines are the small crinkles that form across the bridge of the nose. These lines are caused when we activate the nasalis muscle. Quite often we see these deeper bunny lines in people who wear glasses. We can easily soften these crinkles with two injections of anti-wrinkle product either side of the bridge of the nose.

Lower face anti-wrinkle

Lower Face Anti-Wrinkle treatments include treatment of the DAO or ‘Depressor Anguli Oris’ and the Orbicularis Oris Muscle which encircles the mouth.

DAO treatment targets the downward turn of the corners of the mouth. Some people have quite a strong pull in this area and can in turn, pull the smile down. This creates what is known as a downward or ‘sad clown’ smile. By injecting a small amount of Anti-Wrinkle product, this relaxes the muscle. This assists in turning these corners upwards to a ‘happy smile’ appearance.

A ‘Lip Flip’ treatment targets the orbicularis oris muscle. As we age, this muscle tends to curl the lip inward, creating a flatter smile. We can correct this by injecting anti-wrinkle product to the vermillion boarder of the lip. The treatment relaxes the underlying muscle to gently roll the lip outward. This creates the illusion of a more pouty lip. This treatment works particularly well inconjunction with a Lip Enhancement

Peri-Oral Lines or ‘Smokers//Lipstick Lines’ occur when we activate the orbiularis oral muscle, such as pursing of the lips. These lines become more prominent as we age due to the lengthening of the philtrum – thearea between the nose and upper lip. It can also be due to extrinsic factors such as sun damage. Unlike in a Lip Flip treatment, we inject the anti-wrinkle productdirectly over these wrinkle whilst the muscle is active. These injections reduce the movement of the muscle, thereby helping to soften the appearance of these lines.

Jawline Slimming

Jawline Slimming targets the bulky masseter muscle which sits either side of your lower jaw. This muscles function is to assist us in chewing, however can become overactive if you have a habit of grinding or clenching your teeth known as Bruxism. Sometimes we see people with muscles so enlarged genetically that it causes a more square-like jawline. To combat this, we inject anti-wrinkle product deep into this muscle to help relax its movement. As the product begins to work, our muscle reduces in size, thus slimming the jawline. This also reduces your ability to grind or clench your teeth.

Nefertiti neck lift

A Nefertiti Neck Lift targets the platysmal muscle which sits either side of our neck. As we age, our platysmal muscles shorten and pull down on our jawline. This gravitational pull creates an appearance of the infamous ‘Turkey Neck’ giving us a jowly appearance. This can make a person appear much older than they really are as the contour of our jawline disappears and our platysmal bands look more prominent.

To combat this, we inject small concentrations of anti-wrinkle product directly into the neck muscle. We also target the areas along the prominent bands and beneath the jawline. This in turn relaxes and lengthens the muscle causing an unopposed pull from the above musculature. The result is a lifting of  the neck and improved appearance of the jawline.

Anti-sweat treatment

Anti-Sweat Treatments of the underarm is another popular treatment at Aesthetic Allure. This treatment helps to reduce the amount of sweat produced to your underarms. This treatment enables you to raise your arms with confidence any time of the year!

To do this, we inject small amounts of Anti-wrinkle product to the underarm, targeting the areas where the overactive sweat glands are. Similarly to how the product works on overactive muscles, the product prevents the nerve signals to the sweat glands. This then reduces their ability to produce sweat.
